How to Freshen a Caravan Duvet Without Using a Washing Machine
Aktie
Cleaning your bedding regularly is straightforward, but duvets are trickier—especially shaped ones in caravans and motorhomes. Most domestic washing machines aren’t big enough, and laundrette runs are a pain.
Here’s how to freshen your duvet without putting it through the wash, plus some tips to protect it in future.
1. Air it outside
If the weather’s dry, hang your duvet on a line or rail outdoors for a few hours. Sunlight helps kill bacteria, and fresh air reduces smells. This works well if your bedding's a bit musty after storage or travel.
If you’ve got one of our shaped duvets with the Tuck Me Under design, use pegs to hold it in place by the corners, and let the air do its thing.
2. Vacuum it
Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to gently hoover your duvet. This pulls out dust, dead skin, and pet hair without damaging the fill. It’s a good idea to do this monthly if you're using your caravan often.
3. Spot clean marks
For small spills or stains:
Dab with a clean damp cloth
Use a small amount of mild detergent
Blot again with plain water to rinse
Let it dry completely before using
Avoid soaking the fabric—especially important for duvets used in French or island beds, where movement and shape matter.
4. Use a protector
The easiest way to keep your duvet clean? Don’t let it get dirty. We can make bespoke shaped covers that protect your duvet. These are machine washable and easier to clean regularly.
5. Add a spritz of fabric spray
A light spray with a fabric freshener can keep your duvet smelling decent between deep cleans. Stick to something gentle and fragrance-free if you’ve got sensitive skin.
